What are the requirements for explosion-proof Slip Rings?

To meet the requirement for explosion-proof, a Slip Ring must assure the enclosure is able to contain any explosion originating within its housing and prevent sparks from within its housing from igniting vapors, gases, dust, or fibers in the air surrounding it.

How can I know if the slip ring is suitable for my area according to the ATEX directive?

The classification of dangerous areas is carried out following the recommendations suggested by EN 1127-1, EN 60079-10-1 (for explosive gas) and EN 60079-10-2 (for explosive dust), which provide elements for the division of dangerous areas into three zones, depending on the frequency and time of presence of the explosive substance. For gas-Ex we have zone 0, 1 and 2. Zone 0 is an area in which an explosive atmosphere in form of gas, vapor or mist is present permanently or for long periods > 1000 hours/year. Zone 1 is an area in which the formation of an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture of air and flammable substances in the form of gas, vapor or mist is possible during normal activities in a quantity comprise between 10 and 1000 hours/year. Zone 2 is an area in which the formation of an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture of air and flammable substances in the form of gas, vapor or mist is not probable during normal activities and, if it occurs, is only for a short time, less than 10 hours/year. Ariete is suitable for zone 1 and 2.

Which is the meaning of T in ATEX description?

The classification of explosive gas/air mixtures can also occur through contact with hot surfaces. For this reason, electrical constructions located in dangerous areas must also be classified based on the maximum surface temperature developed, both in normal operating conditions and in the event of a possible fault. Temperature levels go from T1 = 450 °C to T6 = 85 °C. ARIETE is T5 = 100 °C so can be applied in all the conditions from T1 to T5.
